Newborn Baby Clothing: Months 6-9

Ah, this is when the fun with newborn baby clothing begins! Actually, your baby is no longer considered a newborn, he/she is definitely considered a baby by now. At six months of age your baby is probably starting to crawl or is at least pulling himself around the room by now. Sleepers are now for sleeping!
I decided to break up months 6-9 and months 6-12 only because of the drastic stages of development and the different clothing needs for each of those stages.
Considering baby starts to crawl during this period you will now want to have lots of two-piece outfits on hand. My rule of thumb has always been to have at least one outfit for everyday of the week that way you’re not stuck having to worry about laundry (you have enough things to worry about) for at least 5 days. I suggest comfy cotton pants and long or short sleeve shirts (taking the season into consideration). During the colder months I would put a onesie underneath the outfit too. Baby is encouraged to spend a lot of time on the floor adventuring and building muscle strength and motor skills so it’s very important to choose clothes that will move well with baby and also protect baby’s knees and tummy from the carpet and bare floor (read carpet burn). I know those embroidered jeans are super cute but they’ll also hinder her performance.
I would also suggest investing in a pair of good quality leather slippers. More than likely you received several pairs of Robbies as gifts and they will now come in handy. If you can, I would suggest that you return duplicate sizes and make sure you have every size starting at age six months. These slippers provide babies with the grip for pushing themselves up and when they start to experiment with standing.
You will still need sleepers for sleeping. If baby is crawling and wearing his slippers then I would highly suggest buying the sleepers without feet. Just because it’s evening/down time doesn’t mean baby will stop venturing around and the feet on sleepers are nothing more than slippery (especially on hardwood floors) and baby could injure himself very easily.
As for outer wear, that would depend on the season during these months. If it’s winter, I would suggest a one piece snowsuit. 2-pieces may seem like a great idea but really they are more trouble than they’re worth. Babies are not walking around at this time and let me assure you that they won’t really like the snow! Winter boots are a waste of money. I have always used the snap on ones that come with the cute baby snowsuits.
