Baby play mats provide a safe and interesting spot for babies to relax and develop. These mats are made from a soft material, offer baby a safe place to play and will keep him or her busy while mom takes a break or gets some work done. Young children develop hand-eye coordination from focusing on objects in their environment and trying to reach for or grab the objects they see. The play mats have bright colors and often include mirrors, toys, handles, soft buttons, lights and music. Pushing buttons, reaching for toys or handles keeps baby busy for hours just exploring these interesting surroundings. Babies get bored easily so when your child starts crying after being fed and changed, he or she may just want some play time.

Baby play mats help babies develop motor skills and are good for tummy time exercise. Babies need tummy time to strengthen their neck and upper body for raising and turning their head, rolling and beginning attempts at crawling. Play mats are great for a baby’s development of visual and auditory senses. Infants who do not get enough tummy time may develop a condition known as Positional Plagiocephaly, which causes the back of the head and neck to flatten. This is a temporary condition and is corrected by frequent changes in a baby’s position.

Simple play mats are perfect for rolling and encouraging crawling. Activity mats are good for developing hand-eye coordination and helping babies to focus. Some also provide learning tools such as letters, numbers, and sounds of words. Gym mats are good for reaching, pulling and other activities to encourage strength in the upper body such as arms, shoulders and neck.

When your cute baby no longer needs it, the simple play mat can be used for an older child in a playroom or bedroom as a cushion for toys and play to reduce noise on hardwood floors.

Baby play mats have a variety of uses which make them economical as they can be used many times for different purposes and then passed on to another child.
